Why We Ride

Over the last 30 years, tens of thousands of people have ridden across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the PMC with one goal in mind – financing cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. Together, PMC cyclists have raised $270 million, crucial funds that have improved the lives of cancer patients and their loved ones around the globe. The PMC’s fundraising success is the result of the positive energy that forms and grows when people come together to work as a unified force toward a common goal. Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer. One in four of us will face our own challenges with the disease during the course of our lives. The PMC is a way for the healthy to fight for the ill, and for all of us to invest in the future cure. Below are our individual reasons:

 Lesley:

I ride for my mother. Her courage and strength through her diagnosis and treatment was inspiring. She's a rock.

I ride for my Granddad who lost his battle in November 2010. He was the most loving family oriented man, and I wonder each day how different I would be had I not had the opportunity to have him in my life. I strive to be more like him in my life. I miss you GD!

And I ride for all those who I've known:
  • Andrea Boes [An acquaintance and loved friend of so many]
  • Wilda Omer [my grade school bus driver]
  • Lauren Alexanderson [my roommate who kicked cancers butt at age 10]
  • Mr. Gillum [a dear friends father]
